Shill Alert is a remix of Honoré Daumier’s 1859 lithograph They Refused This… the Ignoramuses!! (Ils m’ont refusé ça… les ignares!!), published in Le Charivari as part of his series L’Exposition de 1859.
Daumier was already making memes about artists, audiences, status, and self-promotion more than 160 years ago. Shill Alert keeps the pose and changes the argument.
Funds from this piece will support continued work on MNN (Meme Network News) and the Shillandia Calendar — the daily briefing and drop calendar serving the 6529 community.
