Reflection is Veneration

Artist Statement: Reflection is Veneration started as a digital illustration based on a haunting dream of belonging and reconnection. Using synthetic media, I brought that vision to life and shared it so others might see a piece of their own journey in the work. This process felt like opening a conversation with memory, an invitation for anyone who looks to find themselves in the story. I rarely discuss my Afro-Indigenous identity in public statements and let my art speak for me; this piece is rooted in that reality. Spoken for those who know what it means to move between worlds, with backgrounds that do not always fit into ready categories or narratives. Belonging can begin with making visible what is often kept hidden. Synthetic media creates a way to mark that presence, to quietly insist on the importance of stories that are lived but rarely told. Since 2022, I have documented works like this on Blockchain with the intent to build a future of hope filled with proof of concept and existence. Here, I use these tools to educate, and honor both the seen and unseen parts that shape who I am. This work is a simple act of witness: proof that I am here, you are here, and sometimes just being seen is a kind of progress in a world filled with noise and distractions from lived reality. For anyone who has felt overlooked or walked between worlds, this is a reminder that your experience matters, your creativity is real, and even when the usual boxes feel too small, we can make space for ourselves and for each other.
