Echoes of the Unseen: Exodus 31:1-5
Echoes of the Unseen: Exodus 31:1-5

Exodus Chapter 31, verses 1–5 had a heavy impact on this series. Why? Simply because God spent 40 days explaining, in great detail, all of the design elements of the tabernacle he wanted built. It is clear that He has a high value for art. The verses state, "1. Then the Lord said to Moses, 2. "Look, I have specifically chosen Bezalel, son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 3. I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts. 4. He is a master craftsman, expert in working with gold, silver, and bronze. 5. He is skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He is a master at every craft!"

Bezalel, by being filled with holy spirit, was able to build the temple of God. God chose an artist - not a warrior or a priest - to build this amazing temple, allowing God to have a temporary dwelling place on earth. Once Bezalel had God's spirit upon him, he was able to receive the information from God necessary to build. The working of God took him to a new level far above his accomplished long suits and practice from the work of his hands. Art is a creative skill that God has placed in our hearts, heads, and hands. With the gift of holy spirit, it allows us to give glory to God in everything we do. We utilize this godly creativity to carry out the godly work in our lives. Just as Bazalel was a master of every craft, you too can use any medium of art to express your creativity, and you don't need to stick to just one form.
