[Rare Earth Sculptures] Thulium (Handheld Burial Accessory, 2013)

THULIUM is a rare earth sculpture and modular vital apparatus: a Puma Punku H-block replica fused with a 1,000MW blue laser system, ice, hydrilla, organic banana, aluminum, acrylic, liquid melatonin — and its most crucial organs, the handheld burial accessories. These three ergonomic devices are diasporic activators, designed for interaction, renewal, and dispersion. The work embodies a shift from obsolete racial mythologies of origin toward planetary ecologies of scale, computation, and climate consciousness. Drawing from the legendary island of Thule and its 20th-century occult misappropriations, THULIUM reconfigures myth into a living interface: a cognitive-ecological catalyst for divergent thinking and possible worlds. At once ritual object, workshop instrument, and climate probe, THULIUM stages a dialogue between deep time mythologies, computational futures, and the urgent unfreezing of the Arctic. It is not a monument but a device — one that seeds new patterns of thought across bodies, communities, and environments. Installed at Perfect Present (Copenhagen, DK), 2013. / ENERGY⋮PANGEA (2010–2019) is an evolving artwork-as-system by Iain Ball that reconfigured sculpture into networks of objects, environments, and psyche. Developed through an unfinished Rare Earth cycle, it probes resource extraction (on/off-world), supply chains, techno-dependence, geopolitics, altered states/UFO speculation, and the tangle of New-Age mysticism with consumer capitalism. This contract preserves the surviving works and archives as authenticated on-chain artifacts—1/1s, series, and editions—each a live node in the ENERGY⋮PANGEA ecology. Provenance, royalties, and metadata are enforced at the protocol level, securing a historically significant post-materialist project and enabling collectors to hold operative fragments that continue to propagate meaning across time and networks. / The Rare Earth Sculpture Project (2011– ) forms the core of ENERGY⋮PANGEA, where each element becomes the anchor for a sculptural system interweaving objects, sound, text, and environment.
