Oh, how you must love servitude, to willingly partake in this Ponzi scheme disguised as the so-called modern lifestyle. Look at you, scurrying around at your 9-to-5, tiring yourself out day after day on a hamster wheel of death, just to make the fat fatter and the rich richer.
And all for what? Just to blow it all on food and drink and clothes and entertainment, basic necessities repackaged commercially as self-indulgent comforts, shared as tiny morsels of relief among an avalanche of overwhelming labour; just barely enough to keep you going but hardly ever fulfilling.
Or even worse, you’ve been swept up in a tropical fever dream — spending your savings financing a total of two whole weeks in the entire year, again scurrying about from checkpoint to checkpoint, aimlessly snapping digital mementoes just to serve as a conversation starter for the next 365 days.
Can you imagine how those in power are laughing at us? Holed up in their decadent mansions, smoking cigars while dining on caviar, remarking to one another how surprised they are that they’ve managed to pull off the scam of a lifetime, infiltrating everything that the sun touches — restaurants, cinemas, schools, governments, hospitals — truly a one-stop-shop from when a person enters the world to when they leave it.
Yet the sad truth of it all is that this is all unavoidable, even if you hate it. And those that realise the intricacies of this sadistic game we’re playing often end up on the wrong side of justice, citing the old adage “if you can’t beat it, join it”.
For there are but three ways out from the way the world works — acceptance, apathy or death.
