1/1 Edition by Diane Scrofani
There is a saying about Maine's Ogunquit Beach, it is “as reliable as the tide.” The sun and the moon’s gravitational pull control the ocean's current, and nowhere is this more evident than the estuary known as the Ogunquit River. Twice daily, without man's interruption, the river fills and empties into the ocean. Pools of water glimmer in the sun, anything not lifted by the motion is left behind waiting for the next tide. That is where I found myself, pulled like the tide between two worlds.

Rise up, I came before you
that is my light upon the sand that shines
Can you see your reflection in my story?
Centuries old, born yesterday
Water flows with no movement
Grass sways with the music of your breath
Is there peace here?
Pain screams silently
The wind is made of needles
the sun shines down like broken glass
Let me walk beside you, let your cape float out to sea
Can you see me now?
