Climbing & balancing on huge rocks was needed for the perfect composition of the roaring & unstoppable glacier stream seemingly running from the Rosenlaui peak through the frame and towards the viewer, accompanied by a strong golden glow only a late autumn sun setting could gift, while it dances with the clouds above the Bernese alps. At the end of the 18th century, the mule track of the Rosenlaui Gorge first gained notoriety after writers and scholars such as Karl Viktor von Bonstetten, Jakob Samuel Wyttenbach and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe discovered it. They described the natural beauty of the Reichenbach valley with the backdrop of snow mountains, the Rosenlaui glacier and the Rosenlaui gorge in their works. The origin of the name Rosenlaui is derived from the old German "ross" for tearing and the Hasli German "laui" for avalanche and means tearing avalanche. Rosenlaui hit the headlines around the world in 1946 when the rescue teams set off from there to the American Douglas DC-3 that had crashed on the Gauli Glacier. 1/1 edition; landscape photography; by Dominique Weiss; Swiss Alps;
