*Sadness* depicts the impact that sorrow and internal struggles have on the human being, as well as how we present ourselves to society. The putrid black venom represents a sadness that originates in the mind; the serpents symbolize the thoughts that attack and inject this poison, taking hold of our senses. One serpent grips an eye, controlling our perspective on life, while another coils beside the ear, dictating how we interpret what we hear. The weeping eyes—manifesting as tears—and the pallid skin are involuntary physical reactions to this affliction. Meanwhile, the golden skull represents our pure and precious soul, yet we conceal all of this behind a fake smile and a facade of well-being.
