Optimism
Not many landscapes invoke the feeling of being in a dream than one that is entirely different from what you are used to. Despite being a professional landscape photographer, I haven't traveled much outside of North America. And most of my photography is usually done in the Pacific Northwest. So I am overall quite used to mountains, oceans, and lots of trees. The desert has always been a landscape that intrigues me. It's so different from what I am normally used to photographing up in Canada. It's warm, it's open, it has endless unique textures to it... And unlike the common belief that the desert is bland and boring; it's really the complete opposite. Many of the desert landscapes that I have visited and photographed are incredibly different and unique from each other. Whether that landscape is a sea of sand dunes, a mix of rocky textures, or beautiful golden sandstone spires; every desert has it's own unique character. And when you can catch that character at the right time, then the feeling of being in a dream state becomes ever more possible to achieve. Welcome to my photographic reverie, captured at Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah.
