Growing up in Brooklyn, coming into my own as a young woman. The conflict between living in an apartment building, hanging with the neighborhood kids and being raised to be the perfect, Catholic school girl. The demons of who I knew I was battling with who I was expected to be. My peers on the block would shame me for my “advanced” vocabulary. My schoolmates wanted to be “ghetto” to disrupt the Catholic school girl status quo. I was somewhere in the middle of all of that, losing myself in the process while suffering from the act. A brutal yet transformative time in my story.
