Chester showed a lifelong affection for earth and water. Many of his painted scenes occur on a farm or by the ocean. His love for the sea also extended to the men who traversed it: sailors. At some point, before he turned 30, he discovered the Boston bars that catered to them. He would become a lifelong patron.
