The majority of citizens in Mirage chew a medicated gum called GOMA, the Happy Gum. GOMA produces a complete blanket of cozy and happy feelings. It has the effect of removing unpleasant and critical thoughts so it creates a kind of conformity that is unusual in society. Most people chew GOMA in the morning to enter a happy and anxiety-free work state.
