The graphic appears on the back of Mālama i nā Honu volunteer shirts: "Hiwahiwa would go." The tracking on the map is her path to the nesting grounds a few years ago.
Apparently, she went. In 2022, Hiwahiwa was once again fitted with a GPS transponder to track her trip from Oahu's Laniakea Beach to the nesting grounds on the French Frigate Shoals of the Northwest Hawaiian islands and she only recently arrived.
The Honu Collection is curated from almost 20 years living in Hawaii. I photographed these Honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island.
I volunteer with several non-profits focused on education, conservation, and outreach for Hawaii’s endangered wildlife, including Mālama i nā Honu, which works with these Honu.
A portion of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to Mālama i nā Honu to provide resources for their conservation efforts. This helps ensure that these beautiful green sea turtles are around for future generations to experience.
