Basking Honu tend to be mature adults but while exploring the tide pools near Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, I found this tiny Honu resting on the shell of a much larger adult. Seeing a basking Honu this size is exceedingly rare, with this Hawaiian green sea turtle barely larger than a dinner platter, making it probably a "juvenile" of about 20-25 years old (if not younger), where adults can be 4'-5' long and weigh as much as 500 pounds.
The Honu Collection is curated from almost 20 years living in Hawaii. I photographed these Honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island.
I volunteer with several non-profits focused on education, conservation, and outreach for Hawaii’s endangered wildlife, including Mālama i nā Honu, which works with these Honu.
A portion of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to Mālama i nā Honu to provide resources for their conservation efforts. This helps ensure that these beautiful green sea turtles are around for future generations to experience.
