Shades of Blue: What Time Buried

We spend so much of our lives moving forward that we rarely notice what gets left behind. Old dreams. Old friendships. Old versions of ourselves. The people we thought we would become. Most of it doesn't disappear. It simply settles somewhere beneath the surface, buried under responsibilities, mistakes, victories, heartbreaks, and years that arrived faster than we expected. And every now and then, life hands us a shovel. A photograph. A memory. A familiar voice. A place we haven't seen in years. Suddenly we're digging through the ruins of yesterday, searching through pieces we thought were gone forever. Not because we want to live in the past. But because some part of us still wonders what became of the things we loved, the people we lost, and the person we used to be. Maybe that's what growing older really is. Not forgetting. Just learning how to carry a cemetery of memories without letting it weigh down your steps. And sometimes, when the ground is quiet enough, we find something unexpected beneath the dirt: A piece of ourselves we thought time had taken. If you could uncover everything time buried, what would hurt more the things you lost, or the person you left behind?
