Constantin Brâncuși sought the essence of form through radical reduction by carving away all that was superfluous to reveal pure, essential shapes. Heather N. Stout began with the incised lines of her linocut and submitted it to a process of visual distillation. Through image-to-image transformation, the machine acted as a contemporary reductive force, smoothing the carved marks into what the machine recognizes as the form’s ‘natural’ state: a fluid, biomorphic vessel suspended between body and object. The resulting Amphora thus extends Brâncuși’s legacy into the present, where the algorithm becomes a modern polishing tool, transforming the artist’s physical gesture into a singular, luminous expression of essential form.
