This work came from thinking about dark periods in life, times that feel empty, dry, and stripped of meaning. The landscape reflects that sense of desolation, where life seems to have withdrawn and only traces remain. The body is exposed down to its structure, suggesting vulnerability, exhaustion, and endurance at the same time.

At the same time, the hourglass introduces another possibility. Instead of measuring the passing of time in a traditional way, it releases darkness, as if the weight of that period is slowly draining away. The moment depicted exists between collapse and continuation, when despair is still present, but no longer absolute.

The piece is intentionally open to opposing readings. It can be seen as an image of complete ruin, or as a turning point where darkness is no longer endless. For me, it lives in that tension. The uncertainty of whether an ending is final or the beginning of something else.
