This piece was inspired by a Japanese knifemaker's experience.
A blade moves slowly across the work. Everything it touches turns to color.
I kept thinking about how much steel must be ground away before a blade can finally hold its edge.
Sometimes life asks us to cut certain things away. Not from anger, but to make space for clarity, growth, and new possibilities. To finally see the rainbow again.
The cut is not the ending. The cut is where the light gets in.
Cleave runs in real time. The blade returns on a roughly five-second rhythm, but its angle and its color drift continuously and never reset, so the piece never repeats itself exactly.
Made for my dear friend and first time collector, Charlie Highball.
