Drift of White

The river moves slowly beneath a pale sky, its surface carries the last breath of cold. In the current, a white pelican drifts, a quiet form against the dark water. Spring has arrived, but gently, the air still sharp, the light restrained. Feathers glow in shades of white, not bright, but enduring. There is no effort in his motion. The river does the work, cradling him between winter and warmth. In black and white, the moment simplifies, water, wing, and breath.
