In the heart of Himachal Pradesh's Sainj Valley, where the Himalayan peaks stand sentinel over sacred ground, this photograph captures the timeless essence of Shangarh Meadows—a place where mythology and daily life intertwine.
Legend has it that this meadow was created by the Pandavas during their exile (Agyatvas). It is said they purified the soil to cultivate rice, picking out every single stone, which is why the meadow remains so unnaturally smooth and lush to this day.
The Shangchul Mahadev Temple, with its intricate deodar wood carvings, stands as guardian at the meadow's edge, just as it has for centuries.
In the foreground a young girl guides her sheep across the open grass, her younger brother close by, while three of my friends wander, as seekers, with the soft curiosity of outsiders.
