Before the Feeling Finds a Shape explores the moment just before an emotion becomes recognizable — a subtle threshold where sensation exists without a name, a story, or a form.
The work begins as a generative composition created with an algorithm in p5.js that defines the spatial structure, strokes, and color relationships. This system is guided but not controlled, allowing the composition to emerge rather than be designed. AI is then introduced as a collaborator, adding texture, variation, and slight deviations that soften the rigidity of computation.
Inspired by Joan Miró’s ability to express the subconscious through simple, playful marks, the forms behave like emotional traces rather than representations. They suggest impulses, interruptions, and pressures rather than objects — fragments of something forming but not yet formed.
This is not a depiction of a feeling, but of its arrival: the agitation before clarity, the noise before meaning — the space where creation begins.
