I hold my left hand out,
and for a moment there is nothing.
Just quiet. Just wondering.
A moment when my mind is flooded with the unknown.
The unknown is a peculiar thing.
You can fear it, want it, even wait for it.
This time was all of that.
Then in the unknown, through waves of water,
the outline of a woman, drifting into focus.
She moves her finger down my spine,
the world tilting a little with every word spoken.
A swirl of pins in my palm,
not painful, just a soft rush traveling inward.
Waves that feel like hands covering my ears,
and the world falls silent.
No weight of worldly possessions, hate, or war.
I feel a peace I didn’t know I was missing.
It is time now. I receive what I came for.
The setting starts to fade away, the blackness returns.
It no longer feels unknown.
I rise from the blackness changed,
as if a part of me finally woke.
