Every Week An NFT Poem is a series of spoken-word poems inspired by those who inhabit the digital world we're all obsessed with.
Most of the poems will be a tongue-in-cheek, snarky take on the week that was, but the format is likely to vary depending on what's happening.
Some will be FREE editions, some won't (because poets have to eat, okay!?)
If you pick up a FREE poetry edition and you enjoy it, please consider checking out my short stories, which are also FREE to read (and you can then perhaps consider minting a token).
Let me know what you think of these. Please and thank you.
Every week an NFT poem
Week 1, 19 November 2022
An unseemly invasion of blue checks took over Twitter,
It was everywhere you looked, like the piling up of litter.
But then a big whoops as there were more impersonators than ever before,
Companies lost billions in value, but it doesn’t seem like anyone is keeping score.
Now tweeps are saying up yours to the chief twit who wants them to be hardcore,
And Zuck licks his lips as twits flock to Insta and the blue bird struggles forever more.
The FTX contagion continued to spread through our peaceful digital land,
Billions evaporated into thin air while SBF twiddled his toes in the sand.
Bitcoin and ETH took a tumble while most of the alts were completely screwed,
People were understandably furious and then the crypto bros got a little too crude.
They focused on Caroline and the comments were laced with misogyny and poison,
Then the Horde mother stepped in and called for a little less anti-women venom.
Focus on the crimes they committed and the money they stole, is all she said,
The bros reacted like incels with death threats as they replied “off with her head!”
Even some of the really big traders and crypto OGs spewed fire in Betty’s direction,
The bros don’t like it when you ask them to be civil and exercise a little discretion.
Of course everyone wants to see SBF and the whole team going to jail,
But we also want a nicer metaverse without the hate, or we will all fail.
To make matters worse, a dodgy dude with an awful surname held huge twitter spaces,
And his guests were more dodgy dudes but thousands tuned in from the weirdest places.
Then our trusty NFT twitter sleuths started to do a background check or two,
And, oh dear, they seemed even dodgier than we thought – who knew?
Now it looks like Kyle Davies and Su Zhu are on the comeback trails,
Is crypto not fucked enough, or are we already in a coffin and they are the last nails?
But hey, this is the space for serial ruggers,
A never ending parade of dubious buggers.
And then in the nick of time, Matt Medved tweeted about The Gateway,
A free event and a bustling Web3 Metropolis to lead the way,
And to remind us that we’re here for the writers, the poets, the artists,
The musicians, the photographers, the AI legends, the weirdos and the misfits.
Crypto will survive, life will go on and NFTs will continue to break new ground,
So carry on creating and innovating, and please do stick around.
