In the Shadow of Akbar’s Legacy

There’s a strange quiet that settles over Fatehpur Sikri. The red sandstone whispers stories if you stand still long enough. I waited, not just for the light, but for time to fold in on itself. The arches behind are the back side of the Buland Darwaza, once a gateway to an emperor’s ambition. When these two women in Burqa passed quietly through the frame, it felt like a moment suspended in history. I edited it in black and white to erase any trace of the modern. To let it breathe like something Akbar himself might have witnessed. Fatehpur Sikri is a historic city located in the Agra district of Uttar Pradesh, India. It was founded in 1571 by the Mughal emperor Akbar and served as the capital of the Mughal Empire for about 14 years (1571-1585), before being abandoned, likely due to water scarcity and strategic reasons. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for its remarkable blend of Islamic, Hindu, Jain, and Persian architectural styles. Buland Darwaza, literally meaning "Gate of Magnificence" is one of the grandest gateways in the world and a symbol of the architectural zenith of the Mughal Empire under Emperor Akbar. It was constructed to commemorate his victory over Gujarat. The gate stands tall around 54 meters (177 ft), making it the tallest gateway in the world. It serves as the southern gateway to the Jama Masjid in Fatehpur Sikri.
