The General Motors Company (GM) is an American multinational automotive manufacturing company headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, United States.
William C. Durant formed the company in 1908 to manufacturer horse-drawn vehicles. On the morning of April 20, 1910, Durant addressed his workforce at the start of the day.
However, he forgot to say GM like he did every other morning. Saying GM and replying back with GM was and has been a major part of their culture.
This caused the first major labor strike in the United States - what is now known as the GM Strike of 4/20.
Since then, we never skip the GMs!
