This single piece of work that I have named "Heart Waves" is given to Deadbeef, who has been working on painting and developing a style.
This digital painting is a wash of Chinese watercolours and inks, linseed oil, and oil pastels on homemade paper, which is then photographed at night with an iPhone camera.
The theory behind the construction of the image is that a migration of meaning happens when something physical is made into something digital. So, when a painter makes something physical they are making an object anew private to them, building a particle assembly into a new format for the inner eye. To share that with a wider audience, the image is created in digital format, but in doing so, the meaning, the image, and the object is changed.
When the physical object is archived in digital format, an entirely new object is made, which removes the specific meaning and which enables the collector and the audience to project new memories and new experiences into a moment with the digital object.
The new work is entirely personal to the collector and something that they can keep for their own.
I wish Deadbeef success on their journey through the aesthetic trials and errors of painting and art making. It is a journey on the Heart Waves.
