There is a void between us
You and me, them and us
We seek to close the gaps
Make our shadows one
Inanimate objects are metaphors
For the yearning between us all
For contact and tactility
For materiality and meaning
And then we push it all away
Seeking inner light
Till we are alone again
In the spaces in between
