This small painting on homemade paper is a two-stroke application of gesso on a red background of oil paint and bean paste mix.
This bistable image study explores duality. By attempting a figure-ground illusion, the artist is investigating the existence of two things at once.
The concept extends beyond the form within the image to the process by which a physical work becomes a virtual work of art. How do technology processes shape our conception of our reality?
Does technology influence categorisation of things into dichotomies or dualities? Do they reveal dichotomies or do they reveal dualities? Is the process of technology itself one of revealing or creating complementary incongruence?
I don't know the answer, but I like to think of the process of art as one that requires working on more than one idea at once, and that experiencing art is also the process of experiencing more than one thing at once. This is why we have metaphors in language.
What is the digitalvisual version of a metaphor?
