“Confined Vigilance" is a piece that explores the theme of reclaiming personal power by overcoming the prison that is fear.
The imagery of shiny eyes in a dark room behind window bars symbolizes the fear that arises when we contemplate stepping out of our comfort zones thereby giving a feeling of stagnation or being stuck in situations we may have outgrown.
These fears are fueled by illusions of danger and failure, represented by the orbs that feed into the building while we hide behind lies we tell ourselves to justify staying behind, represented by bars. However, upon closer examination, we realize that the orbs are few in number and fleeting in nature and the window bars are merely a trick of light. This realization serves as a reminder that our fears are not grounded in reality and despite their apparent prominence, they are ultimately insignificant and serve only to distract us from the vast world of possibilities that awaits us.
This also draws attention to the twinkling stars, symbolizing the limitless opportunities and potential that exist outside our comfort zones. These stars represent the beauty and wonder of the unknown, inviting us to embrace the unknown and venture into uncharted territories, just as the saying goes, “everything you want is on the other side of fear”.
Through "Confined Vigil," I hope to encourage viewers to confront and recognize the illusory nature of their insecurities, and to seize the power to conquer and outgrow them.
