Just for a moment, imagine the expression on your face as you walk over to the edge and see this majestic landscape for the first time. I've seen photographs of Bryce Canyon before on my little phone screen. But to see this in-person was something else. All those textures and details, unlike anything I had ever seen in my life. It felt like I was looking at a carefully crafted metropolis. But this metropolis had no residents. It had no streets. It caused no pollution. This metropolis was in fact just a stunning natural landscape known for it's unique beauty.
When I photographed this image, it was -8 degrees Celsius outside. For some people, maybe that's not very cold. For others, you may as well ship them to Antarctica. For me, I'm somewhere in the middle. As someone who was raised in what is considered the "tropics of Canada", also known as Vancouver Island, I am used to just below freezing temperatures during the Winter time. So I could definitely feel the temperature when I stood here capturing this photograph, but it wasn't overwhelming.
If anything, the overwhelming part of this whole experience was this jaw-dropping scene that lay before me. It was impressive enough to see during the day time, but to come back here and photograph this moment shortly after sunrise; incredible.
In post, I really wanted to draw out those details and textures even more in the final edit. Nothing was added and nothing was removed. The colors, light, feelings, and emotions were simply drawn out and emphasized so as to make the final piece that much more special.
