I create pixel art NFTs since 2020. My main process is to create pixel art by code using p5.js. I created a sprite based system, so I also call these works sprite art. I often combine these works with my own music. Beyond that I also paint on BasePaint as a gold brush contributor.
After the "Lost City" incident (scroll down a bit to read about it), a few years later I picked up again on the idea of sprite based generative pixel art.
I created a sprite system which contains info like layer position, animation, randomness, etc. The sprites are loaded by the tool I created and being rendered into static or animated "landscapes". The results are deterministic. After rendering all single frames for an animation I combine them with my music in a video editing tool.
I also minted a few works on Tezos using this process.
The "Lost City" series is a generative pixelart project. I created it in 2021 with Processing and applied with it at KnownOrigin to become an artist on their platform.
I even was accepted but close to when I wanted to release the artworks I was hit by a major setback - my hard drive crashed and was broken.. All data was lost among it this very series. I was so depressed, I stopped creating for a few months. This series itself was even the reason for the hard drive failure as it invloved a lot of testing and the rendering of countless frames to optimize colors, vehicle generation (the small thingies flying through the cities), loop optimization to fit the audio, etc.
I was working on it for several weeks, it took a lot of time to render all the tests, often over night. The rendering of cluntless frames led to a completely stuffed hard drive as I simply did not keep track of it. And that's exactly one of the ways to destroy a SSD hard drive..
About three and a half years later I found this exact release stored on another random external hd by accident. I was looking for something completely different and then just stumbled upon that one folder. I couldn't believe it as I was so certain it was lost for good. The code for generating these cities actually is gone for good and one of the 8 loops is a bit different from the others - the reason why I was still rendering more frames at that time, to correct that small error. You can spot it if you look close enough. 👀
Each loop works standalone and you can watch the small flying vehicles do their business on and on and on.. Put in a sequence however the 8 loops form one large relaxing audiovisual.
